Yukon Chamber of Commerce Motion to Dissolve...

…AGM attendance by all members-in-good-standing is imperative to drive the future of Yukon-wide business advocacy – Wednesday, June 11, 2025,  7:30 – 9:00 am via Zoom

After 40 years of operation, advocacy and leadership for Yukon’s economy, the Yukon Chamber Board of Directors regrets to announce that on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at our online Annual General Meeting, a motion will be advanced to close Chamber doors.

Since 1985, the Yukon Chamber has worked hard for all Yukon businesses, through our community Chambers and our business members. Having a voice that serves the whole of the Yukon business community has been valued and essential for business and has been supported by the business community and government alike. Our deepest gratitude to every volunteer, association and government partner, working together for a stronger economy for Yukon.

Here are a few things you may want to know:

·        The core driver for this decision is financial. Over the past several years, many business leaders have served YCC, working with the office to generate revenues, deliver value, sell memberships and manage costs. With great staff and Board turnover, the conclusion of a program contract, a pending recession, and more, it’s time for significant change. The current operational model is no longer sustainable, and difficult discussions need to be held.

·        For the past several months, the office has taken many austerity measures including cancelling subscriptions, selling unused technology and working to reduce our office rent.

·        Our financials for the 2024 year are ready thanks to the leadership of our Treasurer, Collin Young, YCC Office Manager Samuel Braham, Melaine Bedard of PIKA Books, and our accountants, MacKay and Associates.

For the AGM:

·        If YCC membership votes in support of this motion, an interim  Board would need to be elected to address all outstanding accounts payable and are estimating the dissolution process to be complete over the next three months or less. An income statement for the next 3 months will be shared at the AGM. Should there be an outstanding balance, members will have to pass a motion on what to do with the remaining funds, if any.

·        If the membership does not support the motion, an election will be held, and the new Board of Directors will work to determine operational models going forward. A few options will be shared at the AGM including but not limited to dissolution, advocacy/grassroots-only, innovating new model with new leadership, etc.

Call to Action:

Members-in-good-standing have been previously notified of our AGM, and are reminded to join and help to determine the future of the Yukon Chamber of Commerce. An AGM notice has been sent out to all registered members, including final agenda, financials, directions and background materials.
