Time to review your 2021 WCB payroll estimate

By now, you should have received reminder in an email from Yukon Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board (YWCHSB) that it is time to review the payroll estimate you provided to them earlier this year on the 2020/2021 Employer’s Payroll Return (EPR). If you expect your 2021 payroll will exceed 125% of your estimate, you could be subject to a penalty and an interest charge unless you advise YWCHSB by the end of this month. If you report a payroll revision before the end of September you can avoid being subject to a penalty and an interest charge. To negotiate payment terms on the premium calculated based on the revision, the revision must be reported by the end of day September 30, 2021.

When calculating the payroll estimate, you need to include earnings for employees as well as casual labourers and subcontractors who do not carry their own workers’ compensation coverage. Do not include dividend amounts or earnings for sole proprietors. The 2021 maximum assessable earnings amount is $91,930 per worker.

If your 2021 payroll will not exceed 125% of your estimate no action is necessary.
