Businesses Needed for the Older Workers Program Practicum

The Older Workers Program at Yukon University assists unemployed and underemployed people between the ages of 50 and 70 to enter/re-enter the workforce. The 13-week program guides students through basic computer skills training, numerous practical courses such as First Aid, Conflict Resolution, Food Safe and job search skills such as resume-writing and job interviews.

The program includes a 4-week work practicum. The practicum is intended to give our students a chance to try out working in a particular industry or at a particular employer that is of interest to them. It’s also an opportunity for businesses to “try out” a potential future employee and to offset new hire training and orientation costs. There is no cost to the employer; the program pays the students an hourly stipend (including MERCs). The program usually looks for practicum placements for November and March every year. To inquire about hosting a student placement please contact tiow@yukonu.ca or call 332 7079.
