2007 AGM Event Summary
As usual, the Watson Lake Chamber of Commerce were the absolute epitome of what we know as “good Yukon hosts’” by helping us make the 22nd Yukon Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting and Awards Banquet a roaring success. Events were held at the Northern Lights Centre, the Watson Lake Ski Club and the Watson Lake Recreation Complex during the weekend of October 19th – 20th. Attendance numbers were down slightly from the previous year, but that did not dampen the enthusiasm of those who did attend. Full Release | PDF

Yukon Business Directory Web Site Launched
The Territorial Department of Economic Development, in partnership with the Yukon Chamber of Commerce, has publicly launched the Yukon Business Directory Website www.directoryyukon.com as part of the government's investment attraction strategy. The new, interactive online business directory will facilitate connections between Yukon businesses and potential investors and employees. Yukon businesses are invited to submit new entries, or to make changes to existing entries by contacting the Yukon Chamber of Commerce.

Latitude Wireless Extends Cell Phone Coverage
The Yukon Chamber of Commerce congratulates Latitude Wireless on the extension of cell phone service in many of Yukon’s communities with more to come on line shortly. Northern Business Leaders Stand Together
Canada’s Northern Chambers of Commerce are united in their positions on northern development. The three northern chambers of commerce see many opportunities and challenges to economic development in the North and have been working together to identify areas of common interest and concern on economic issues. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by the Iqaluit, NWT and Yukon Chambers of Commerce to reflect their commitment of cooperation on northern economic and business issues. Employer Consultant Contract Expires
The Yukon Chamber of Commerce will explore options that could enable it to continue providing the services of an employer consultant. In 2002 the Chamber negotiated a two-year contract with the Yukon Workers’ Compensation Health & Safety Board to fund a pilot project that created the employer consultant. The Health and Safety Board has now decided not to renew the current contract and to do an independent evaluation of the pilot project. PDF

Response to 2004 Federal Budget
Minister Ralph Goodale has released what was anticipated to be a pre-election budget, however, the message sent in his first budget as Finance Minister is that the Government is committed to the sound fiscal management of the country’s finances by maintaining a balanced budget which includes slightly increased government spending as well as a reasonable contingency planning reserve. Response to Taxpayer Protection Act Amendment
On November 5, 2003, the Yukon Government tabled an amendment to the Taxpayer Protection Act (TPA) in the Legislature.  The amendment would see the government move to an accrual based accounting model.  Simply put, it would allow government to book its fixed assets and depreciate them over the life of the asset.  This change is consistent with recommendations from the Auditor General and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
