Silver Trail Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Association
Mayo Anne Leckie reported:
The STCC fall meeting was held September 30, 2007 where they had a “field trip” to the M.V.LOON project, which is coming along nicely. They reported on the Stewart Crossing booth, which was staffed again, thanks to the Department of Tourism. The road and signage issues were raised again; in particular concern was expressed regarding the South McQuesten Road (and bridge) and the McQuesten Lake Road.
There is general understanding that the budget for road maintenance is limited, and that many of these roads need more than “just maintenance” work, however, as we shared with you in August and has been stated in various Joint Council and YCC letters to the Dept. of Tourism, these roads are getting increased use not only through tourism traffic, but also from the number of exploration and mining camps that are in the area. Safety for everyone remains a major concern.
The Silver Trail Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Association remains committed to providing a collective voice for the Communities of Stewart Crossing, Mayo, Keno and points in between on the subject of joint business and tourism related concerns and look forward to continuing to work with all levels of government to enhance our region in these regards.
