Silver Trail AGM 08

May 5, our President& CEO, Dave Austin attended the Annual General Meeting of the Mayo Chamber of Commerce. This year’s AGM travelled outside of the village of Mayo, and was hosted by the good folks at Moose Creek Lodge, on the Klondike Highway north of Stewart Crossing. At last count there were more than 25 persons in attendance. Along with a very busy business meeting and an update from YCC, representatives from the Klondike Visitors Association and the Yukon government’s Department of Tourism and Culture spoke to the group. All were treated to an outstanding, home-cooked, Moose Creek Lodge dinner consisiting of the best perogies North of 60, baked ham and saurkraut to die for... and the desserts weren’t half bad either... and that is definitely an understatement! If you are travelling to Dawson City this summer, a stop at Moose Creek Lodge is a must! To end off the business portion of the AGM, the following slate of officers was elected:

  • President: Nancy Hager
  • Vic-President: Mike McGinnis
  • Sec-Treasurer: Anne Leckie
  • Directors: Mike Mancici, Dorothy McDiarmid, Richard Reid, Beverly Genier, Maya Gignon

CONGRATULATIONS Mayo on a job well done!

Dawson City Gold Show 08

Once again the Yukon Chamber was present at the annual Dawson City Chamber of Commerce Gold Show. Dave Austin staffed a booth in the annual trade show that featured the benefits of membership th the YCC and also promoted

OPPORTUNITIES NORTH ’08.

The show was well attended, and featured more than 50 exhibitors from around the Yukon, northern British Columbia and Vancouver Island. As usual, a feature of this annual event was the Annual General Meeting of the Klondike Placer Miners Association, with the hot topic being the new Placer Mining Regime. The Gold Show also featured a number of informative presentations on Placer Mining, past and present.

Temporary Foreign Workers Program

Temporary Foreign Workers may just be the answer to your seasonal staffing problems and now there is good news on the TFW recruiting front! Learn more visit the Links

On May 16, 2008 the Yukon Chamber of Commerce, YTG Advanced Education and specialists from the federal government held a luncheon to announce the recent changes to federal regulations. Also they answered any questions regarding how to cut the red tape and to help fill vacant positions with hiring foreign workers. If you missed out on this, you can visit the useful links for more information.

Canadian employers hire foreign workers to help address skill and labour shortages. ServiceCanada & CIC ensure that foreign workers will support economic growth in Canada and help create job opportunities for all Canadians. Canada’s Temporary Foreign Workers Program had some recent changes to federal regulations that help to assist qualified Yukon-based small and medium enterprises to bring TFW’s into Canada. In the majority of cases, there are four steps involved in hiring a temporary foreign worker from outside Canada. The need to complete each step will depend on the specifics of the job offer and the foreign worker’s country of citizenship and last permanent residence.
